Just as the pineapple came to be recognized as the symbol of hospitality, Allan Greenberg became recognized as a pioneer in the food service design industry. His ideas, designs, and creativity were as charismatic as his personality. His name was synonymous with integrity, hard work, and perfection. Sadly, Allan passed away on January 6th, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.
There was never a day that Allan wasn’t excited to go to work. He saw every day as an opportunity to create better environments; to change the way that people experienced their surroundings. What started as a passion for cooking at an early age led him to a career in foodservice equipment, and ultimately led him to create Hospitality Services, Inc. It wasn’t long before Allan became nationally recognized as an expert in the field of food service design. His restaurant and servery designs won many awards, both for HSI and for our clients. His passion was evident in everything he did, from the design of the cookline right down to the design of the tabletop menus.
As the leader of HSI, Allan thrived on designing within the architectural, engineering and graphic worlds of expertise. Allan remained involved in every project, but also let his staff develop and grow their own styles, personalities, and professional skills. So many of us owe a great amount of gratitude to him for pushing us to be better designers, for nurturing our careers, and for being there as a friend as well as a mentor.
